Invited by CELAP, Professor Andrew Rose, Associate Dean and the Faculty Chair of Haas School of Business, University of California Berkeley, delivered a lecture on US monetary policy and European currency crisis on May 6. Prof. Feng Jun, CELAP’s Executive Vice President, and Wu Hsioh Kwang, Executive Chairman of Singapore’s Straco Corporation Limited, who is also a board member of Haas, attended the lecture and made a speech respectively. The lecture was hosted by CELAP’s Vice President Jiang Haishan.
Professor Feng briefed CELAP’s efforts in international cooperation and reviewed the exchanges between CELAP and Haas. He stressed that both CELAP and Haas think highly of international cooperation, attach great importance to practice in their teaching activities and try their best to improve students’ capability that they need most in various ways. Under an agreement of MOU, the two academies will strengthen cooperation in the future.
Profess Rose introduced the functions of Federal Reserve System, US monetary policies and risks it faces. He also tackled the courses of ongoing European debt crisis and shared his opinions on the establishment of optimal currency areas. After his speech, Rose picked up questions raised by participants, most of them are senior officials in China.
Established in 1898, the Haas School of Business is the oldest public business school in the US. Several scholars from the prestigious school have won Nobel prizes of economy. In January, CELAP began to conduct cooperation with Haas after the signing of MOU.
