Nanyang Technological University Professor Gives Lectures at CELAP



Recently, Professor Liu Hong, Chair of the School of Social Sciences and Director of the Centre for Public Administration at Nanyang Technological University gave two lectures at CELAP. Upon arrival at Academy, he was received by Prof. Zheng Jinzhou, Vice President of CELAP, who exchanged views with him on academic cooperation between two sides.

On March 10th, Prof Liu delivered a lecture entitled “Belt and Road: International Practices and A Southeast Asian Perspective” at a program dedicated to promoting the implementation of the initiative. Using existing practices in Singapore, he shared his views on how to design cross-border governance mechanisms and cultivate talent with an international vision.

On March 11th, Professor Liu gave another lecture entitled “Talent Strategy and its Implementation in Singapore” at a program on advancing the development of China’s western regions, whose participants were from the Ningxia Provincial government. He gave a brief overview of Singapore's economic and social development and the characteristics of its dynamic governance system, and explained the rationale behind the country’s innovative talent development strategy. Following the lecture, he took questions from participants.

Professor Liu has been appointed as a Changjiang Distinguished Professor, one of the highest academic honors for individuals in China. He taught at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of the National University of Singapore from 1995 to 2006. Between 2006 and 2010, Professor Liu was the Inaugural Director of the Centre for Chinese Studies and Chair Professor of East Asian Studies at the University of Manchester. His research areas include China and globalization, international talent strategy, and the “Belt and Road” initiative and political and economic development in Southeast Asia.
