From May 19 to 20, 2025, Professor Tang Yinshan, Vice Dean of Henley Business School at the University of Reading, and Dr. Guo Hua, Associate Professor at the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, Queen Mary University of London, were invited to CELAP to deliver a series of lectures on the theme of “International Comparative Perspectives on AI Governance.”
On the morning of May 19, the two experts delivered a lecture for the “Program on Advancing New Quality Productive Forces and Promoting New Industrialization.” On the morning of May 20, they continued their lectures for the “2025 Capacity-Building Program for Technical Officials from the Planning and Research Institute under the Ministry of Transport”. Professor Tang began by examining the cultural attributes of artificial intelligence and the foundations of its governance, offering an in-depth analysis of how governance logic differs across cultural contexts. Dr. Guo followed with a systematic overview of the key issues in AI governance, using detailed case studies to compare the regulatory frameworks and legal systems of major economies. During the interactive session, participants actively raised questions on AI regulation and governance practices, to which the two speakers responded with expert insights drawn from their respective fields of research.
On the afternoon of May 20, Dr. Guo was invited to deliver the 15th lecture in the “Broadening International Perspectives and Telling China’s Stories Well” series. With participation of CELAP faculty and staff, the lecture explored the latest developments in and prospects of AI technology and its innovative applications across various sectors. Delivered in an accessible yet in-depth manner, the session drew active participation from members of the Department of Human Resources, the Department of Academics, the Department of Teaching Administration, etc. Lively discussions followed on topics such as AI ethics and academic integrity. By focusing on the development, governance, and application of AI, these international courses and lectures provided valuable global perspectives for participants and staff, contributing useful international experience to China’s pursuit of high-quality AI development.
